Ethical Rat Breeders, and Breeding Info
My roan baby Josh (Born here) had his first molt, and fading a few days ago. It was freakish as he literally went from a solid charcoal black to 'roan' overnight it seems!( More Josh picsCollapse )
I posted about Kira's litter earlier. I still have four who need homes, one mink merle hooded boy, two black hooded boys, and one black hooded girl. Anyone interested, let me know! My website is http://gemsgalrattery.tripod.com
and my contact info is there. The litter has their own page up.
All seven are chubby little squeakers. Three have red eyes, four have dark, and if I'm not mistaken, it's three boys and four girls. I'm happy, and Kira is doing a good job as a first time mommy!YAY!
GGR Buddy, the old man rat I have, who I had with EAGL Kira, did his job again. Kira looks like she's about to pop, any day now. This litter will be minks, blacks, maybe some russian blue or russian dove, if I'm lucky, probably mostly hoodeds, and a chance that some will be dumbo eared, since their mom is. All will carry dumbo, at least. I'm excited to have a litter in the works on the here at GGR again! I love having a litter of ratlings around!
I am also going to retry my dalmation dumbo downunder litter again, sometime next week. That litter will be blacks and blues, all dumbo, possibly some downunder.Unfortunately, the waitlist for this litter is full, but for the litter mentioned above, there is plenty of room.
Two questions for you.
I'm looking for input from more experienced breeders here. Munchkin just had her babies this morning (9:30am) with no apparent problems. There are only 4 pinks though. Her relatives have all had large litters (12-14) but she is a little smaller than they were (still not tiny) and it has been very hot. Anything I should be watching for in a small litter?
And, I was expecting the babies to be all black, but two of them definitely have pink eyes. Any insight on what color they might turn out?
Parents: Blue, Black
Grandparents: Black, Russian Silver, Platinum, Russian Blue
GreatGrandparents: Platinum, Russian Blue, Russian Silver, Black, Havana Merle, Pearl Merle, Russian Blue
Parents: Russian Blue, Black
Grandparents: Agouti, Lilac, Seal Point Siamese, Black
GreatGrandparents: Agouti, Blue Beige, Mink Merle, Russian Dove, Russian Blue, Seal Point Siamese, PEW, Black
Do any of the dilutes here match up and seem likely?
I am trying to breed a dumbo dalmation litter, and a mink litter. The mink litter will hopefully come along towards the late middle of next month. And hopefully, though the two dals have been together for a month, they will have a litter at the same time. I keep hoping.http://gemsgalrattery.tripod.com
That's my website, you can see the parents of these litters there. It also has ways to get ahold of me to get on the waitlist.
So my babies are now 12/13 days old. I was very sick this last 2 weeks so I did not get to take as many pictures as I would have liked to. Here are some pictures that I took today. If anyone is interested they are going to be NARR registered and their bound to be excellent ratties. I am San Diego County. I hope you all thing they are just as precious as I do.( Read more...Collapse )
x posted so sorry if you see this twice
A few people have wanted to see the differnce between 'normal' cinnamons, and what people are calling "Aussie Cinnamon". Here is EAGL Thank Lucky Stars a US cinnamon (who scored perfect on color at the RatsPacNW March show), and UCVR August Sunrise an Aussie cinnamon to give a demo.
August on the left, and Lucky to the right.
Sadly I didn't have a helper so had to juggle 2 rats on my own ;0P( Pretty Cinnamon Rat kidsCollapse )
The genetics on the Aussie mink are not the same as the US mock mink, but have bred true with some "browns" in the US breeders are assuming are the UK minks. Aussie cinnamons have a nice rich red color, and dark pigment, while US cinnamon tends to be more orange with lighter pigment.
In a few months I'll be breeding a litter out of parents that carry both Aussie mink, and US mink to see what is produced with those dilutes. Both parents are agouti based to we're expecting mostly agouti based kids. (Agouti, US Cinnamon, Aussie cinnamon, and cinnamon pearl) This should get super confusing esp since the UK mink is affected by the pearl gene so there is the potentional of Aussie cinnamon pearls... Plus of course the blues, and other colors in the background too! (Yes I'm trying to kill myself from color confusion ;)
Another picture post of the stunning Aussie cinnamons is here: http://beautifulwolf.livejournal.com/820563.html
